Find Niche Markets - Niche Market Ideas
An important step to making money online is to find niche markets that are profitable and also
'winnable'. You need to find a niche market which has lots of potential buyers, but at the same time has as little
competition as possible. That combination can be difficult to spot, so read on to see how it can be done.
Look For Buyers To make money you obviously must get people to buy whatever
you are promoting, so you will try finding a niche and a product that has many buyers. You don't want to reach
those who just are seeking information, but those who are looking to buy a specific product.
That’s why you will try to find niche markets with products to promote that people need and want and are
willing to spend money on. The more popular the product is, the better; however the competition
tends to increase according to the popularity of the product.
So, to avoid too strong competition it is necessary to compromise between popularity and competition, hence you
will want to narrow your niche research to find the best spot.
Digging For Niches
Still, there are plenty of niche market ideas to explore where you can find products with high demand and
relatively little competition. The clue here is to drill down through a product category to find
specific products to sell or promote.
Take 'Consumer Electronics' as an example. Under that label you will find thousands of products in many
different sub-categories, for example 'GPS & Navigation', where you will find 'GPS Devices', then 'Vehicle GPS
Devices' and further "down" 'Automotive GPS Systems' and 'Marine GPS Systems'.
By "drilling deep" this way you can find niche markets that are pretty narrow, but still has many interested
buyers. Any person who make a Google search for 'Marine GPS Systems' for example, is genuinely
interested in a device of that type and probably looking to buy.
With this concept in mind it is possible to find profitable niches in any market segment. Then, when you have
found your niche you can create a website from which you sell or promote the specific product(s) as an
affiliate.
How To Find Your Niche An excellent tool to use to find niche ideas, is Google's Keyword Tool. It's completely free to use, you don't even need to have an account
with them. However, it works best and makes it easier to find niche markets from inside a Google AdWords
account, which you can sign up to for free.
Now go to Google's keyword tool and click on the little arrow to the far right of the
word 'Category' in the 'Find keywords' search box . Then a drop-down box shows all main categories of Google's
keyword engine. When you click on a category a number of sub-categories show up, and another click on a
sub-category reveals sub-sub-categories, and so on.
Pick a Product When you have found a niche product you would like to sell or promote, click
on it to make sure it shows in the 'Category' slot (only that specific product should now show). Then tick the
[Exact] box under 'Match Types' (on the left navigation bar) and click the 'Search' button.
Google will now probably return several hundred (if you are inside your account) keywords
related to your search term (the word(s) in the 'Category' slot), depending on the product type you searched
for.
Those keywords are even more narrowed down from you original search term, and you will probably find brand names
and specific product names among them.
What Google gives you here is valuable information on three important factors to find niche markets:
- products that people are searching
- the demand for each of those products (search volume)
- the level of competition for each product (low-medium-high)
As you will understand, this is a goldmine. Using this method you most likely will find a product with high
profit potential which you can sell or promote as an affiliate.
Depending on the product category, these are the main steps to finding a niche market that will make you money
using this method:
- Choose a specific product
- Monthly searches of 5,000 or more
- Low competition (of course)
To further check the competition, use the ordinary Google search engine, and type the following into the search
slot: allintitle:"product name" (type in your product name, of course).
Google will then show a number (just below the search box) of web pages which have that product name in their
page title, which indicates that those pages are targeting this product.
This number should be well below 100,000 – the lower the better obviously.
Note: Your 'niche keyword' doesn't have to be a product name to find niche markets, it could be
for example "natural dog food recipes" or something like that. But people searching for product names often are on
the verge of buying, that's why those keywords (search terms) can be the most profitable.
